With a story starting on the concrete blocks of Brooklyn Zoo, Zach G‘s base of operations now resides in between Bucharest and New York. Ever since he started getting into the electronic music underground scene (more than 15 years ago), he has been absorbing the unique sounds he heard all over the world so as to form his own perspective towards this craft.
Starting from 2018, he has been running Lessons, a record store, label and event series, putting out parties in hidden warehouses around Brooklyn and other parts of New York. Being a resident DJ of the Miami based Un_Mute, and a Sunrise signed artist, we’ve decided to ask Zachy (as we like to call him) to give us some tracks recommendations for our DJ’s Choice series.

🗨️ What’s one track you believe could make anyone fall in love with house music?
A track that would make someone fall in love with house music is “Soul Revival” by Craig Alexander. Super long, steady track. Unrelenting beats, minimal breaks, with really nice vocals that contain a positive message.
🗨️ Imagine this: You are at a festival, the DJ playing is doing a very bad job and nobody from the crowd is dancing, but you can remotely hijack the sound system. What song are you playing to make them bodies move?
If the DJ was doing a clumsy job, I would choose to play “Blow Me” by K Alexi. It’s a pretty straight forward, driving track with not too many breaks in there (I’m not a fan of interruptions in a track =) ), and a sick one note bass line that starts hitting about halfway through the track. It’s sure to lock the crowd into a groove.
🗨️ If you needed to instantly sober someone up from a bad trip or panic attack, what song is the musical equivalent of a warm blanket?
If I was at a festival and I needed to sober someone up from a bad trip, I would play the track “Bat Quano” by Håkan Lidbo. It’s super bright and happy, a nice and steady track, and this would for sure make people feel safe and uplifted.
🗨️ Is there a track you absolutely love, but it’s so weird or structurally chaotic that you’ve never found the right moment to play it out?
A really weird track that I love is “Snee” by Rub. From the infamous Music for Freaks label, it has a very unique arrangement, peculiar sounds, but an absolutely naughty bassline. I’m not sure if I have played it out in public yet, but I have definitely played it in my living room during an extended after hours session. Sure to bring out the “stank face” to the discerning listener.
🗨️ If you could have any track play automatically every time you walked into a room, what would your walk-up theme be?
If I had to choose my walk-up Zach G anthem, I would choose “My Beat (Derrick Carter’s Disco Circus Mix)” by Blaze. I’ve played this track for years during my sets, and it got tons of videos and a lot of positive feedback during my last Sunwaves performance. Like most of my tracks, it has a relentless beat, super groovy percussions, and a slick, positive vocal message throughout the track. As an artist, I’m sometimes unsure of how others perceive me, so I’m just wondering…. Can You Dance to my Beat???
